p53 pathway by glucose deprivation
當細胞缺乏葡萄糖 (glucose) ,AMPK將活化TSC1/2複合體 (complex)。活化態的TSC1/2複合體將抑制下游蛋白質─Rheb─的活性,進而抑制mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin) pathway,阻止細胞增生。同時AMPK亦會活化S15p53,啟動p53 pathway,抑制細胞增生。

雖然AMPK與AKT皆可將TSC1/2複合體磷酸化,但根據作用的位置不同,可活化或抑制TSC1/2複合體的活性。
